The Warriors finished the 2011 season with their best run in playoffs since 1995 by appearing in the 2nd round. The team compiled a record of 15-8 with a third place finish in the always tough split 3A/4A Mountain Athletic Conference. This included a 5-1 record against MAC 3A competition and a season split with 4A state runner up TC Roberson.
This year's team had five players sign with colleges and only the 2nd player ever drafted by a major league organization in school history.
GARRETT BROWN DRAFTED
The Colorado Rockies selected Erwin outfielder Garrett Brown with pick 1,308 in the 43rd of the 2011 draft. Garrett joins William Humes (31st rd 1983) as the only Erwin players to get drafted while in High School.
Brown batted a team-high .449 with 13 RBIs, six home runs and four doubles this
past season to earn All-Mountain Athletic Conference honors. He was 17-for-18 in
stolen-base attempts. All of this was accomplished with a fractured right thumb for the second half of the season.
Garrett now has the option of signing with the Rockies or accepting scholarship offers from Western Carolina or Tennesse Tech for both baseball and football. If Brown elects for college he will have to wait until his junior year of college before he will be able to re-enter the draft. |
